a day to give thanks:

Thanksgiving is a day that I always look forward to, this year however not only was it hard physically but it was mentally draining. I spent the first part of the day nursing this cold/flu that I have been working on for a week now. Then it was off to my Mothers house for thanksgiving dinner. Unfortunately it was bitter sweet not only because my dad had to work but because worst of all one of the most important people in my life was noticeably absent.

For the last few months my grandfather has been in and out of the hospital, two days before Thanksgiving he was rushed to the hospital early in the morning with another complication from the congestive heart failure that he has been battling for the last year.

As we had a very quiet, meager dinner until my sister and I couldn't take it any longer and headed to the Hospital with desserts in hand. As I opened the door to his room nothing could have prepared me for what I would see inside.
My grandfather looked as if he had lost one hundred pounds, he was nothing but skin and bones, it was terrifying. In my head all I could think was....

well I'm not going to say what I was thinking I'm trying to stay positive.

Here is a man that came into my life when I was six....a strong, sweet, caring man something that was almost new to me at that age and he took me in just like I was his own and gave me so much opportunity to grow in a safe environment. I am so grateful to him and grateful for him.

So I give thanks, even if it was in a hospital room....I give thanks to have him for one more Thanksgiving

I'm so sorry about your Grandpa, Jessica. I know personally how difficult this process is and it breaks my heart to know you are going through it now. Please know that we're thinking of and sending healing vibes for Grandpa. If there is anything we can do to help, just let me know. Hang in there ......and hang in there, Grandpa, too!
